Just wondering: Did Wissmann ever send Jackie Spinner a thank you note?

Tuesday February 28, 2006, Buzz Fugazi

Jackie Spinner, former student editor of the Daily Egyptian at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, recently returned to her alma mater on a book tour regarding her experiences as an embedded journalist in Iraq.

Aside from learning that she was almost abducted by goons there and was rescued by US Marines, I am not familiar with what she went through over there and I am unfamiliar with what she has to say about it. I guess I will need to read her new book, Tell Them I Didn't Cry.

Chris Wissmann, current Carbondale city council member, is the editor of Carbondale's Nightlife rag. But neither Wissmann nor Jason the publisher would've been able to make all those shekels over the years telling SIU students where to go suck... if not for Jackie Spinner.

Jackie was the journalist whose intrepid stories in the Egyptian about over-crowding in the bars, resulted in the bars pulling their ads from that newspaper. NIGHTLIFE was then created to take advantage of that situation. Giving the bars a place to advertise and promoting the corporate band scene gave those NIGHTLIFE guys a nice little niche to occupy and allowed them to be players on the scene.

I wonder if Chris sent Jackie a thank you while she was in town. Just wondering.
