Mikey Snot Is Great
Calling Truce With A Senator

June 15, 2006, Buzz Fugazi

During the 2004 Democratic Primary I had firsthand behind-the-scenes experience of what Barack Obama's US Senate Campaign was doing with volunteer recruitment and training. Say what you want about the Senator (I always do) but his campaign was the best organized grassroots campaign I ever saw, next to the Rush Campaign that beat Senator Obama in 2000... I'm kidding. The Senator ran a statewide campaign that was the biggest wallop in the history of US Senate Primaries in Illinois. He did better than the Late Great Senator Paul Simon who had the backing of Reform and Machine Democrats. The 2004 Obama For Senate Campaign was a textbook example of combining the best of reform grassroots precinct organizing with classic hardball Chicago stuff, including a win in the Gotcha! contest... getting a picture on the front page of the Trib showing him upping his opponent in the middle of the street at a parade on Devon Avenue in Rogers Park. Even when you are 100% not ghetto, it starts to rub off on you if you spend any time there, yo.
