Mikey Snot Is Great
"Underground Music" part 2

Monday June 27, 2005, Buzz Fugazi
Back in the '80s I wasn't too sure I'd make it to the 21st Century. Now that I'm here looking back 20 years, I know how disappointed my '80s self would be that I'm writing with a nostalgic angle that begins with "Back in the '80s"...

My heart pumps purple piss for that kid... he's stuck there in the past, maybe feeling alone at Lost Cross House because he's onto a straight edge kick and he's the only one without a beer in his hand and the bands are dosing without him.

No one wants to hear his rants about "bourgeois this and bourgeois that" and despite the ways he is a virtual idiot savant about where America is and where America is going, he has no fucking clue in a million years that he's on his way to using a computer to publish on a web-site run by Mikey Snot. The Rise of the Computer he could see in the '70s, but what the fuck is a web-site in 1985? Working with Mikey in 2005?

If I could send the 26 minute demo of MSIG Radio back in time (on cassette, of course...yeah, there's CDs back then, but I packed only a yellow and black-trimmed cassette boom-box) I don't think I'd be too impressed. I've seen all those bands. Yeah, they're OK, big deal. Everyone and their brother is in a band and most of them totally suck, but these bands suck in a not-so-bad way and I am totally unimpressed with the bandmembers as people, but they're OK, I suppose, if anyone is...

I couldn't imagine how much I'd enjoy hearing this music again for the first time in 20 years. More of us survived and matured staying true to our bad selves than I'd've thunk it. The bands and the players who were just ok, but seemed a little more real than the others... they are better than ok. They are real and they rock. They are bands the Dead Boys would not attack. How many bands can you say that about anymore?
