I'm hanging with Paul Matalonis at the Legal Assistance Foundation in
Carbondale, IL. I worked for Paul in 1988 as a volunteer legal
assistant. Back then, in Murphysboro, IL, Land of Lincoln Legal Aid
had 4 attorneys for 13 counties, so Paul recruited me because I could
read, write, and had a pulse ("on most days," Paul adds). Paul also
conned me into starting the BASEMENT newspaper and volunteering for
Jesse Jackson, which aside from getting me disowned by my grandfather
for a couple of years, gave me my first experience in my future
profession as an organizer. Despite all that work I did for no pay, I
still think Paul is a great guy and I'd like you to get to know him
better.
