Be sure to send all of your petitions to the governments of Iran and Syria. Unless you really believe that the United States and Israel are truly responsible for all the blind hatred and lack of human rights in the region. Again, I emphatically state that Christianity and Judaism pre-date the existence of Islam in the Middle East. What gives Islamic-Fascism, absolute monarchy, or the Jihadi the right to say only their narrow interests should have hegemony there? At worst, the United States is only as bad as everyone else, including our old pals the Russians (any of our Generals raping and killing teenage girls, like the case in the Russian Army?) At best, with the support of educated and humanistic Arabs who want a future for their children that doesn't involve some bearded Muslim version of Pat Robertson pretending he is God-on-Earth... strong, coherent intervention of the United States is probably the only slim hope that this whole deal won't de-evolve into an all out nuclear war based on totalitarian religious differences. If Bush could run wild after 9/11, what do you suppose will happen after Iran finally uses nuclear weapons? (Aside from the peace movement looking like a bunch collusionist assholes). Keep in mind that I have been active in the progressive movement for 20 years and that I do not support the conduct of the Bush Administration. If bake sales and rallies did anything but create a feeling of solidarity among participants (see: Triumph of the Will and study the history of the nazi party, read the anti-socialism of the socialist author George Orwell) Bush never would've been elected in the first place.
This is not about your sense of belonging, people. Nothing less than the future of humanity is at stake and I see the counter-culture driving drunk and not having learned shit about the mistakes the movement made in the past. At least conservatives have the common sense to disown Bush and his insane fiscal policies, but then again, rebel youth cultures are merely the opiate of the disaffected middle class. If any of you fuckos come to Chicago and clog traffic and give me another asthma attack, I will petition the city council to have CPD beat you all senseless like baby harp seals.
