Left and Right Working Together

Left and Right Working together That picture is a portrait of two prominent Chilean figures at a special event in the early '70s. General Pinochet is the one on the left. It's not ironic for Pinochet to be on the left because he is actually standing to the right of President Allende.

This special event is Allende appointing Pinochet to be head of the army a couple of weeks before President Allende is murdered by a coup led by Pinochet. The Church Committee made the official US Government report of US involvement in the coup. It's a bit of a whitewash, but very interesting.

Mother Jones magazine (March/April 2005) had an interesting article "The Siren of Santiago" by Barbara T. Dreyfuss about Jose Pinera, dictator Augusto Pinochet's former labor minister. Pinera is the scummy fascist who, aside from being pals with President George W. Bush, is an advocate for privatizing social security. Going from advising the fascist dictator of Chile to advising the President of the United States should not be a logical career progression.

From the article: "Last year, the World Bank, which until recently

encouraged countries to privatize pensions, published a highly skeptical report on private retirement systems in Latin America..." Like the one Pinera inflicted upon Chile.

Most of you are probably US citizens, so you're wondering: what the hell is a pension? Social Security isn't much, but it's all you have to look forward to.

My ex-boss, a skinny grandpa, got arrested for leaning into a riot shield while protesting the Bush Social Security Privatization Scam. But I guess it's not fair to call Bush a fascist just because he pals around with them. It's not fair to call him a fascist because he's to the right of the World Bank.

Remember that scene in "Apocalypse Now" when Brando asks, "Do you think my methods are unsound?" Martin Sheen takes that dramatic pause and slowly intones "I don't see any... method... at... all." It's not fair to the fascists to call Bush that.

Yeah, DeLay, keep smiling you smug prick.
