December 8, 2009 - Buzz Fugazi

It was the BEATLES that made me want to be a rock musician. When me and my friends pretended to be the BEATLES trying to sing along and mostly using our instruments as props, I always pretended to be John.

I'm not sure, but I remember Steve Dahl was broadcasting into Chicago from Detroit and starting at 4:30 am... I normally set the alarm to go off at 5:30 am but had The Loop 97.9 FM set to go off at about 4:00 am. It was in that sleeping mode, at whatever time, listening to the Coho Breakfast Club that I first heard John was dead,

I bolted awake thinking, "Is he serious? is this a joke?" Steve was way off the wall in those days, but he was clearly overwhelmed and nearly speechless. I sat there in bed, in the dark, stunned, and very sad. I was completely dazed going through the motions of my job.

Leaving work, my Uncle remarked to me that it was the first time he ever noticed me going through an entire day without saying a word. And that was the first time I smiled after finding out John died. December 8, 1980 was a crappy day, and somehow, someway, it remains that way,
